— IPC’s European office has launched a new standards development task group for the automotive industry. This task group, open to all companies within the automotive electronics supply chain, has been focused on creating an automotive addendum to IPC-6012, Qualification and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards. Creation of an automotive addendum to IPC-6012 was initially raised by automotive industry supplier, TRW Automotive in the United Kingdom. IPC invited additional companies involved in automotive electronics to attend the first task group meeting including: Elmatica, Autoliv, Bosch, Elmatica, Scania, Q-Products Europe, Continental, Swerea, EPM-Pabst St. Georgen and Flextronics. Jan Pedersen, Elmatica serves as task group chair. The task group’s goal is to create a globally accepted document, while maintaining high levels of quality and cost control. Committee members have been tasked with identifying key areas in IPC-6012 that are posing challenges for their companies. The task group plans to develop a draft addendum by May 2015. Any printed board fabrication facility that builds product for the automotive electronics markets is invited to participate on the IPC-6012 automotive addendum task group.
